PREREQUISITES
- Reading ability: Ability to recognize Arabic letters (Will be tested in a pre-class interview)
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- Proper pronunciation of the letters (Makharij)
- Attributes of the letters (Sifaat)
- Understanding basic Tajweed rules including rules of Nun Sakin and Tanween, Rules of Ra, Rules of Laam, Madd, Hamza tul Wasl, and Rules of Waqf
- Practical implementation of the aforementioned through the reading practice of Juz 30.
COURSE GUIDELINES
- Each class will be 1 hour long.
- It is an interactive video class and class participation is mandatory.
- Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis. The total time required for assignments will be a maximum of 1 hour for the entire week to accommodate busy schedules.
- The course is divided into 3 terms
- 1st Term – Makharij and Sifaat (September to December)
- 2nd Term – Tajweed Rules (January to April)
- 3rd Term – Tilawah practice (May to August)
- There will be oral and written tests after each term accessible through the student portal.

ABSENCES
Recordings will be available for 1 week to catch up on missed classes however, since class participation is mandatory, a maximum of three absences are allowed during this course.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Ambreen Haneef completed Hifdh at the age of 11 from the UAE and completed a diploma in Islamic Education through Al-Huda Institute, Canada. She attained an Ijazah in recitation in Riwāyah of Ḥafṣ and Tajweed through Critical Loyalty. Currently, she is a student of al-Qirā’āt al-‘Ashr (the variant readings), Al Jazariyah, and Tuhfa ul Atfal. Ambreen has 5 years of experience teaching Qaida Nuraniyah and Tajweed to children and adults. She attained her BSc in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Guelph, Canada.
